After Care Lead Coach, Boston Red Sox Baseball Camps: 2018-1808

Reporting to the Site Leader, the After Care Lead Coach at Boston Red Sox Baseball Camps manages the After Care facility partners and curriculum while ensuring the safety, enjoyment, and emotional well-being of every After Care participant. Arriving mid-morning, our After Care Lead Coach acts as a Boston Red Sox Baseball Camps Coach during the camp day, transitioning to their role as After Care Lead Coach following afternoon camper pick-up, coordinating and implementing every aspect of the After Care curricula with meticulous attention to detail and an emphasis on consistent and enriching instruction. The After Care Lead Coach must have the knowledge of both baseball and classroom management necessary to execute the recreational/instructional and the baseball-related activities, games, and projects that After Care offers. Most important, the After Care Lead Coach must be able to approach each day and its unique challenges with energy, patience, and a sense of humor.

Pre-Camp Season

• Attend trainings in the late spring/early summer.
• Participate in all required webinars and online trainings.
• Master the Boston Red Sox Baseball Camps baseball and After Care curricula and other materials, offering feedback and adjustments that will improve the program.
• Submit all required paperwork on time.

Camp Season

• Execute the Boston Red Sox Baseball Camps curriculum during the camp day, leading a team of ballplayers in a series of drills, skill development activities and games, or assisting with ballplayers where most needed.
• Build strong connections with ballplayers and fellow team members, taking personal responsibility for the success of the After Care program.
• Transition from Coach to After Care Lead Coach following afternoon camper pick-up, managing all aspects of the After Care program and executing lesson plans, schedules, policies, and safety protocols with energy, integrity, and passion.
• Serve as a role model for ballplayers and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, respectful communication, appropriate attire and grooming, and a diligent work ethic.
• Work as part of a team to foster a safe, fun, and supportive camp environment grounded upon Headfirst Professional Sports Camps’ mission and values.
• Implement Boston Red Sox Baseball Camps’ traditions, games, policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
• Maintain enthusiasm and focus throughout busy days during which you will supervise and participate in every aspect of programming.
• Oversee and coordinate After Care’s activities, projects, and games, which include both baseball-related content and general recreational/instructional content.
• Employ both coaching and classroom management skills to ensure the enjoyment, well-being, and development of After Care participants.
• Act as a representative of the Boston Red Sox Baseball Camps to After Care families, calling or meeting with parents as requested in order to provide customer connection and relay important information on ballplayer experience.
• Communicate respectfully, clearly, and kindly with all members of the Headfirst Professional Sports Camps community, including camp leadership, fellow team members, ballplayers, and ballplayer families.
• Prepare, organize, and set up/take down all programming areas.
• Work in all weather conditions.
• Take responsibility for ballplayers’ belongings throughout camp day, holding items for safekeeping when necessary.
• Meet Headfirst Professional Sports Camps’ dress code and appearance requirements.
• Participate in all required in-season trainings, webinars, and team meetings.
• Attend any special events as assigned, interacting with families and assisting with set up/clean up.
• Report any issue, question, or concern regarding ballplayers promptly to the Site Leader; notify appropriate leadership immediately of any evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical conditions, individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances around ballplayers, or any other potentially dangerous conditions or situation.
• Demonstrate ethical and professional behavior in working with ballplayers, ballplayer families, fellow team members, leadership, and facility partners while upholding the Headfirst Professional Sports Camps core values at all times.
• Adhere to state law, Headfirst Professional Sports Camps policies and procedures, and contractual obligations.
• Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the Headfirst Professional Sports Camps leadership team and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.

• At least 18 years of age.
• At least one full year graduated from high school in summer 2018 or equivalent educational experience (if you will be less than one full year out of high school in summer 2018, please apply to our Junior Coach position).
• Minimum 1 year experience working with children.
• Demonstrated ability to lead in an educational and/or baseball-oriented setting.
• CPR/First Aid Certification, or ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification before May 31, 2018.
• Preferred: Professional, collegiate, high school, or youth baseball/softball coaching experience.
• Preferred: Completion or pursuit of a degree in a sport- or education-related field.
• Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully at all times and in all situations.
• Ability to work well with a variety of age, interest, skill, and developmental levels.
• Ability to exercise good judgement, follow instructions, and properly implement Headfirst processes and policies in order to ensure the safety and emotional well-being of campers and team members.
• Ability to successfully complete a background check subject to applicable law.
