The Position

Washington Nationals Baseball and Softball Summer Camp is five days of baseball and/or softball instruction and competition within our custom-built curriculum for all children ages 5-13.  We are looking for baseball and softball coaches who attack each day with enthusiasm for the sport and want the opportunity to inspire youth players, possess the ability to communicate and connect with a variety of ages, interests, and skill levels while approaching each day’s unique challenges with energy, patience, and a sense of humor. We provide the training, baseball and softball curriculum & daily camp schedules along with all equipment for a successful camp but need you to bring camp to life with your enthusiasm, dedication and unmatched energy.


What You'll Do

  • Assist on-site leadership in mentoring and leading coaches through proper implementation of pre-written baseball and softball curriculum and game play, fostering a respectful and positive atmosphere, where campers are constantly engaged and learning throughout the day with high energy, integrity and passion.
  • Ensure physical, social, and emotional safety of all campers by consistently implementing all camp protocols, forming connections and fostering a supportive team environment for all campers on site.
  • During aftercare (3:00 – 6:00 pm):
    • Be the family-facing onsite leader during our Afternoon (PM) Extended Day Programming for a group of 20 - 30 campers.
    • Implement camper safety and check-out procedures.
    • Lead campers through a pre-written after-camp curriculum that is engaging, fun and safe to ensure campers enjoy their after- camp experience.
  • Assist with set-up and execution of various elements of the VIP stadium visits and player meet-and-greets, including organization of equipment within the stadium, handling and delivery of camper lunches and water, and facilitation of camper movement throughout the stadium.
  • Represent the Nationals professionally and respectfully throughout all facets of your day to campers, parents, site and facility partners and any guests you encounter while on the clock and in uniform.
  • Be a loyal, dedicated and responsible team member who consistently shows up on time and ready to work for the campers and the rest of your team.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by camp leadership.


About You

  • Experience playing and/or coaching baseball and/or softball (2 years at a competitive level – high school, college and beyond - viewed favorably).
  • Experience working with children in a camp, school or sport setting (2 years preferred).
  • Passionate about baseball and softball and making a positive impact in the lives of children, families, and coaches.
  • Committed to the camp mission, top notch program quality, the rest of your team, and our campers and their families for the full duration of the summer camp season.
  • Diligent, reliable and willing to learn.
  • Able to remain upright and standing for multiple hours at a time, to walk and/or run quickly around large outdoor grass and dirt-covered fields, and ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. of sports equipment.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified, or able to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification before the first day work.
  • Committed to adhering to the Nationals Summer Camp Cell-Phone Free policy, powering down and putting away cell phones in a Yondr pouch for the duration of your shift.

Additional Camp Information

  • Time Commitment: Available for pre-camp trainings and all weeks of programming
  • Camp Dates & Locations: June 17th – August 16th.

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:45 am-6:15 pm (or whenever all campers have left for the day).
  • Compensation: $17.50 / hour with up to 7.5 hours of overtime expected per week paid at $26.25/hour.
